Pasture-Raised Pork

What makes pasture raised pork different?

We chose to get Idaho Pasture pigs instead of the normal pink pigs that grow fast because of their versatility. What makes them different is that they can and love to eat hay, grass and are much more friendlier then their pig counterparts.

I honestly was never a fan of pigs but in doing research to expand our meat production to add pork I came across Idaho Pasture Pigs. They are great for regenerative farming and can graze along with cows in the pastures. They fertilize our pastures by walking around grazing and making deposits in various locations.

The pigs have a plough at the end of their noses that make them ideal for mimicking the buffalo, turning the soil and creating fertile pastures. That means that while they do get feed they do have other forms to get food as well.

We feed them grain, vegetables and grass/hay. This reduces our cost for feed as well as offers great marbling to their meat.

The meat from grass-fed pigs is higher in omega-3 fatty acids. It’s also more marbleized than traditional grown pork, with a deep red color and a sweeter flavor.
